One of the most exciting shows on the horse racing schedule rolls on when day 2 at Royal Ascot is staged on June 18. The feature on the second day comes in the form of the G1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes, which will see the field compete over a mile and two furlongs. You can find our Royal Ascot Day 2 Picks here.

Royal Ascot Day 2 Picks

Queen Mary Stakes Picks (R1- 9:30 AM ET)

The action on day two at Royal Ascot gets underway with the G2 Queen Mary Stakes, run over five furlongs by horses aged two. Zelaina very much looks like the one to beat for the red-hot Karl Burke team following an impressive win on rules debut.

However, at a price, Ipanema Queen could be an interesting alternative to the favorite.

The Adrian Murray runner was an excellent performer on debut, quickly putting five lengths between herself and the field over six furlongs. That run scored an RPR of 91, which is more than good enough to feature on this step back in trip.

Queen’s Vase Stakes (R2- 10:05 AM ET)

The Queen’s Vase is the second race on the card on day two of the Royal Ascot meet. A fascinating field will compete over a mile and six furlongs, and there will be a number of interesting runners involved.

As an outsider, Ammes could be primed for a big run for the in-form James Owen yard. Al Wasl Storm narrowly beat the three-year-old at Chester in May, but he finally opened his with a smooth win over a mile and four at Chepstow at the end of the same month.

He travelled well throughout that race, and there is everything to suggest that he is still improving. At odds of +6000, he could be a place play at the least.

Prince of Wales’s Stakes (R4- 11:20 AM ET)

The feature on day two comes in the form of the G1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes, which covers a distance of a mile and one furlong. Aidan O’Brien won this race last year with Auguste Rodin, therefore, Los Angeles will be the likely favorite on Wednesday.

However, in receipt of weight, I’m a big fan of the Andrew Balding-trained See The Fire.

Everything seemed to click into gear for the four-year-old filly at York on her second start this season, smoothly dispatching a decent field in the G2 Middleton Fillies’ Stakes to win by 12 lengths. Back against the boys today, but she is firing at present, and still holds room for improvement.
